First of all, make no mistake about it, those were Baltimore House headz dancing and makin' all that noise to an incredible set by Donny Burlin and DJ Oji. When I got there things were already off the hook and crowded. Upon arrival I see Davon taking a break from the congas and he whispers to me how wild and alive the House headz were already. Well you know me...I headed straight to the floor. I get close to the booth and see a damn good unified sight. Donny Burlin, DJ Oji, & Karizma standing in the dj booth. Donny was playing his last song which had people screaming. Then it was Oji's turn. I got to say this, and please my DJ family, the following statement is just my experience. Before this night there was maybe one dj, over the last year, who made me dance and lose my mind all night like I did on Friday night at the Red Maple. DJ Oji banged the hell out of the "box"....and that's how you do it when you play in B-more. Our clubs close at 2am and the super producer/dj knows that when you play in Baltimore for the "Underground Family" you tear @#!# up. Due to a crowded field of dj's and too few places to play, we don't get to hear Oji play in Bmore that much. But he reminded us that he is still on the block. Oji took us on a journey that had me forget who in the world I was as I was dancing close to some cutie singing "Happy Birthday" to her. I felt so damn good as I was able to sing and sing and sing and dance the night away, as Carolyn Victorian would say. It's something about soulful sounding House music that makes me want to make love to the music and whoever I am dancing with....A loving spirit takes over me. The dj's were complimented by a plethora of live elements as Davon was puttin' it down lovely, plus, you know DJ Oji was bangin' it when you turn around to see the normally low keyed DJ Pope playing congas for a couple minutes. David Greenwood was also there adding vibes with the "Inner Corner Band".....In 2 corners on this night. We also saw new faces banging the drums conjuring up the House music spirits. This is the 2nd of the last 4 weeks of Donny Burlin's "Soulful Sounds" at the Red Maple and Baltimore you are representin'. You guys were as alive as any Winter Music Conference party. Please continue to come out for these last two Fridays. We want to continue to show love to Donny for contributing to the House resurgence through his parties @ the Red Maple. Stay tuned to this website as rumor has it that DJ's Karizma and Biskit may be playing soon. Confirmation is forthcoming. If you are a one of the type of people who are always looking for bad things about Baltimore, the one thing you can't front on is the energy of it's House headz and DJ's. We lift our hands in Baltimore!! See ya' next Friday @ the Red Maple.
