Terry Thompson rocks the Red Maple

On Friday Jan 31st, the Red Maple had longtime Baltimore/Chicago dj Terry Thompson burning the decks.  We haven't heard much from Terry since he and Jerome Hicks played at Club Fantasy in a mock "battle of the DJ's" in the early 90's.
Terry thanks for playing "In my arms" by Una.............

On a tip from one of the many friends of the Black Books Cafe, we arrive at the Red Maple after leaving the vibrant Latin Palace with all of our beautiful Latino "cousins."  We called the Red Maple earlier in the evening and the only DJs on the roster they could give us was Donnie Burlin and Chris Brooks.  But with a tip from our friend, dj JLee(Jason Lee), we got to hear Terry Thompson kick new and classic soulful House.  This was our 1st trip to the Red Maple and we liked it a lot.  The dance floor could get overcrowded if someone like dj spen were to play though.  It is a cozy spot with "fire" coming out of an art deco fireplace. They seem to be right in line with this new lounge trend and for a few minutes they were about to get a bad report from us when they turned down the speakers so that the music would become just a background sound.  They quickly came to their senses.   The music isn't overbearing and cigarette smokers have to go out to the small courtyard.  Since the dance floor is right next to the courtyard you may get a little chilly if you are not dancing.  We also thanked Terry for playing an Una Barry track that we didn't hear until about 8 months after it was released on the Yellorange label.  It sounded like a remix and it rocked the dance floor.  All in all, this is a very nice Lounge/club/bar that I can see people going to weekly.  We might even conduct some interviews from this place on occasion.

DJ Willy rocked a kept everyone warm also as the cigarette smokers kept opening & closing the door near the dance floor.  Sorry but no fumes on the dance floor at the Red Maple.
