"Sugar" and Baltimore/DC House heads create a Winter Music

Conference atmosphere!!

A few of my most memorable House music experiences include seeing Liz Torres and Master C & J at Odell's, the "Fly Girl" championship contest at Odell's, and the MAW "Elements of Life" party at WMC '03 in Miami.  Now that list includes the night I partied with DJ Karizma and DJ Oji at Ultra Nate's "Sugar".  I don't know where to start.  I have to say that if this story becomes a bunch of repetitive statements it's because of the overwhelming personal experience and observations I had.  I sent a personal email out to a few of my House family on this one because I have been wishing that Karizma and Oji get under the same roof in a party at the same time.  I wanted every House head I knew to be there and experience what would be an incredible display of the Baltimore House scene at it's best.  Jason Din arrived early enough to add the live element to Karizma's set before joining David G., who spearheads the Inner Corner Band, and a whole crew with congas, drums, tambourines, shakers, etc.....playing for Oji's set.  As usual, I couldn't contain myself as I danced on stage snapping pictures and smiling across a sea of beautiful Baltimore/DC house heads.  If you are reading this and you have never had the opportunity to go to the Winter Music Conference in Miami, don't sweat it.  If you were at "Sugar" on this night then you got a taste of that atmosphere.  You don't even mind that your voice would be a little hoarse the next day.  It was actually a little better because it was like we were partying with family......the Baltimore/DC family.  Throughout the night I looked around at all the people in the club and realized that because the club at 930 N. Charles street changed its Friday night to a more "mainstream" format, that someone(Ultra) had the chance to elevate Friday nights to a higher level at another dance oriented spot(Sonar) in Bmore.  I guess all things happen for a reason.  I publicly thank Lonnie and the guys from Sonar for allowing Ultra's "Sugar" to flourish.

Most of the hardcore Bmore/DC House headz came to celebrate this thing we call House.  I want to thank all the House lovers that I know that came to support yet another Baltimore party.....some of whom I truly consider family. (Lindell, Kisha, April, Rita, Crystal, Oji's wife Stacy, Sabrina, David, David G., Jason, Rod, Ty, Ms. Tina, Kelli, Carolyn, Josef, Michael Joyner, Keith, dj Marv, dj Pope, dj Neosoul, Torell, Willy, Mark, Terry Thompson, Kim, Lyn, Ivy, Cleo, Keisha, Marcia, Buddah, John, Donny Burlin, our DC cousins, and all the people I know but names I forgot.)  I want to also give a shout out to all the musicians and percussionists who play at all the parties for the love of the music.  Great job Ultra!
