"Sugar" presents Oji's "Spiritual Journey" w/ the return of the Inner Corner Band(2.6.04)

Where do I start.  A very stressful week brought me out to the Sonar Lounge on this Friday for Ultra Nate's party.  On this night I really needed to hear some good House music and not just a bunch of r&b remixes.  Although that would be ok, this night had me seeking some bass lines to move my soul out of the depths of exhaustion, to the positive & spiritual high that I'm use to.  Well, just being around the underground family was enough to pick me up.  This week marks the return of our beloved David Greenwood and the ever increased presence of the Inner Corner Band.  Nothing like prayer and support to help a brotha' continue to get better from a recent illness.  The Inner Corner Band was a movement started by David Greenwood......I remember David was just joking around with the name(In the Corner) and I saw him about a year ago at the Sky Lounge with only 1 shaker and a whistle.  Now this movement is serious(congas,djembes,shakers,cowbells,etc.) and brings much flavor to all the parties with Jason Din, David Gilliam, and many other talented participants.  These performers do this for the love of the music and don't just sit around waiting to get paid 1st.  So when you see them at parties remember they do it for the love of music and our House scene.  On this night they had one of the lovely POJI records vocalists on congas.  Una, one of my favorite House music vocalists, banged the drums with the ICB.  Y'all don't understand.......I hadn't seen Una in months and for me it's Teena Marie, Sade, and Una!!!  Una's dad told me months ago that Una could play congas so don't think this was just a pretty face on stage.  She was yet another addition to Oji's ever growing spiritual journey.  Speaking of Oji, who is now the resident of 1st Fridays @ "Sugar", has finally come back home with what now will be solid residencies in Baltimore and DC.  It was good seeing some of the underground family again.........I leave you with a few words from a young lady I met at a New Jersey party with dj Pope and the ICB........"So this is how y'all get down in Baltimore" as she smiled with approval.
