Paradox (dj NeoSoul b-day)02.08.03

On February 8th we scheduled an interview with Marty St. Michaels and he graciously put us on his guest list to enter the "Dox".  At the outset, our sole purpose for visiting the Paradox on this cold Saturday night was to see Marty perform "Sell my soul" and hopefully the new track from the b-sOuL cd. He was very ready for this performance as he was glamorously on the "cross-dressed" tip on this night.  Oh and by the way, I would like to thank Christina, the very pretty young lady who danced with me for the first half hour I was there.  You made my night.  The Paradox ain't so bad when you have someone to dance with.  This was dj NeoSoul's birthday celebration and the main room had a lot of people in there. The BBC was totally caught off guard because 2 of the batteries in the digital camera used to take pictures went dead and I didn't expect so many House "stars" to be in the club.  I could only get 1 pic so I'll have to describe some of the activities.  We see Herman from Chico's "Tumblin' Down" fame and he also said he was performing.  Then I stopped by the dj booth to say what's up, and notice a familiar team these days.  Thommy Davis, Neal Conway, and Aaron Edmonds were all up in the booth dj'ing and playing keyboards.  NeoSoul would also dj a little later.  I told Marty I would arrive approximately 1:45-2:00am so that I could just see the performance and leave.  But time just kept ticking away....2am...3am....4am.  Finally, in talking to some of the performers they said someone went home and mistakenly took the microphones with them.  I won't mention any names put I was told the name rhymes with "pookie"(LOL).  So I'll describe a little of what I saw while waiting.  I was first relaxed by dancing with a very nice looking young lady whom I mention earlier.  Then I notice Thommy Davis in the dj booth going off on the decks with "hot" tracks(old & new).  It's very easily to see how the Basement Boys built such a following in Baltimore and became legends.  He put on one track and started jackin' his body like he was on the dance floor.  Then, in between putting on the next 12", he started bouncing in the air and taking his shirt off at the same time.  He was on fire at this point.  This is the same energy that dj Spen has when he plays.  They feel the music and the crowd sees this and feed off of it.  This brother is making a big ass comeback with a fresh faded haircut.  That's right you heard me, no more long hair.  He also had Neal Conway and Aaron Edmonds providing a concert/performance like atmosphere.  This is exactly the type of enthusiasm and show we want to give House heads when we plan our 1st party.  You can't help but cheer for a brother who has been away from the seen for a while.   I think a lot of familiar faces I saw were there only for the birthday party and the performance.  I was kind of disappointed that, with no fault of the artists,  the show didn't take place.  I wasn't really that mad but somebody truly dropped the ball on this night.  Plus I didn't even get the interview with Marty.  But he is "cool peeps" and I'll catch up with him again soon.
